Swaraj University And Swapathgami Network present
Swaraj Wisdom Weekend with Claude Alvares and Norma Alvares
March 4-6, 2016 @ Swaraj University Campus, Udaipur
Imagine spending a weekend with your favorite Wisdom Heroes to exchange and discuss stories and questions on swaraj, social change, relationships, and the meaning of life! Imagine those heroes sharing intimate episodes in their life journeys! Imagine them sharing their dreams and dilemmas of how they want the world to be! Imagine you sharing your stories ideas and dreams with them and getting feedback and support!
The idea behind the Wisdom Weekend is to create a space for engaging in intimate, free flowing dialogues with our elders and heroes to understand how they have explored and understood the idea of Swaraj through various personal life experiences and how it is a part of their work in the world. We usually only get to interact with these people in busy conferences or listen to them on Youtube, but in this weekend retreat, we envision having a lot of time and space to get to know the hero as a real person. We will also enjoy periods of quiet reflection, cooking together, and some fun surprises. So bring your questions, your stories and your dreams to share.
We’re inviting Norma and Claude Alvares for our first Wisdom Weekend:
Claude is a visionary ecologist, activist and de-professionalized intellectual based in Goa, India. He is the founder-editor of Other India Press (www.otherindiabookstore.com), and director of the Goa Foundation (www.goafoundation.org), an environmental monitoring action group. He is also director of the Organic Farming Association of India (www.ofai.org) and coordinator of the Multiversity Network (www.multiworldindia.org). He was a member of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). He is a member of the Supreme Court Monitoring Committee (SCMC) on Hazardous Wastes constituted by the Supreme Court of India. The Gujarat High Court recently named him a commissioner for evaluating the impact of a port on mangroves and how to restore them.
Like many spaces across India and around the world, Swaraj University and Swapathgami Network are experimenting and working with rethinking our lifestyles and our relationship with ourselves, our work, our resources and our communities. We are questioning, challenging and experimenting with our institutionalized notions of money. So we welcome you to join our experiment and explore your relationship with money and community.
Participants are invited to contribute what they can (towards the cost of organizing the workshop which is approximately Rs. 4,000 per person for food and stay); learning scholarships are available to those who need them. And if you can, your additional contribution will help to support other peoples’ participation. No one will be refused due to money constraints.
We are proud to share that the Swapathgami Network does not take any funding, but rather is financed by its own members. For more info on the Swapathgami network, check out:
