Convention for a Comprehensive  Environmental  Concern

Dynamic Action is a  collective of social activists, peoples organizations and movements. We are very consistently involved in the social, political and ecological concerns of the marginalised section of people for the last four decades. Recently we were in close contact with a handful of people’s organizations and movements in Kerala, particularly focusing on the issues of ecology and environment. After hearing about their experiences we were motivated to organise an in-depth reflection about the contemporary situation of the Western Ghats  along with the veterans of environment  movements.

At present our primary concern is to concentrate on these concerns by consolidating a number of peoples resistance movements to emerge as a powerful and cohesive peoples force.  Day by day the vested interests  – the quarry-land-forest-mining mafia – are plundering  the manifold resources of the Western Ghats. They are destroying the whole environmental balance of the Western Ghats as well as  the basic livelihood rights of Adivasis, Dalits and other marginalized communities. All these in effect are  taking place in the name of ‘New Development initiatives’. We are clear that this type of development intervention is destructive and should not allow to continue.

At this juncture, the Dynamic Action Collective is planning to convene a two day consultation for an in-depth situational analysis and updating about the interventions taking place in the Western Ghats. The cardinal objective of the programme is to consolidate the different resistance activities which are taking place in different corners of Kerala as well as among different groups in other states of South India. We anticipate that a few representatives holding similar concerns from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka will join us. With this intention, the proposed two day programme will commence on 2^nd July 2016  at YMCA camp centre, Thottumugom,  Alwaye.

This centre is situated at a distance of 2km from the Alwaye Railway station and the town bus station. We anticipate that there will be a good representation from different people’s organizations and hope it will help us all to plan for an effective and solid future programmes. Dr. TV Sajeev, scientist and the Head of the forest Health division, Kerala Forest Research Institute has kindly agreed to deliver the main presentation concentrating on the variety of important issues related to the Western Ghats.
