2017 Bicentenary Year of the Bicycle

All of you know that the year 2017 is the Bicentenary Year of the Bicycle. The bicycle was invented in 1817 by a German, Baron Karl von Drais, a civil servant to the Grand Duke of Baden in Germany. On his first reported ride from Mannheim on June 12, 1817, he covered 13 km (eight miles) in less than an hour. Since then, there have been millions of bicycle enthusiasts and in 2017 a very large number of events celebrating the occasion will occur all over the world. From an ecological perspective, the bicycle is one of the most sustainable and affordable modes of transport. Almost anyone can afford it. It is cheaper than a smart phone! It is the transport of the future, particularly when oil resources are depleting.
We at Ecologise Hysderabad will also like to celebrate the event. We open the year with a film showThe Bicycle – A Celebration of the Invention. It will be followed by different people presenting the scene in Hyderabad and we hope that it will end up with forming a committee to celebrate the event in Hyderabad throughout the year. All bicycle enthusiasts are welcome!
