Ahimsa Study Circle
| Event Start Date: 17th April 2016 | Event End Date: 20th April 2016 | Event Venue: Panchgani, Maharashtra |
You are invited to what we hope is only the first step in a longer journey of collective inquiry into Ahimsa. We are hoping that those who have been engaging with social change work in some way and have also been simultaneously inquiring into more fundamental and larger questions, especially those dealing with Ahimsa, its relevance, its perfection and embodiment in ourselves, our organizations and in our work are drawn to this dialog. While Mohan Hiralal ji who has had a long-successful experiment while working in Mendha Lekha vehemently rejects the idea of he leading this group and instead prefers an approach of co-creation and collective inquiry, the rest of us were drawn to this idea of a study circle after a conversation with him.
While we do not envision this to be a lecture series or a workshop or a training program and seek to draw in from the lived experiences, challenges, turmoils of all the participants in collectively shaping this inquiry, we also want to acknowledge the wisdom and experience of those who have spent considerable time engaging with these questions and draw on their experience in shaping our collective work. Rather than deifying Gandhi, we seek to view him as a scientist who postulated a theory of non-violence and draw on his postulations while also interrogating his views vis-a-vis his contemporaries, successors and predecessors.
Costs:
We are offering the facilities in a spirit of gift. At the meeting, the expected costs of consumables and services of support staff will be shared and participants will be requested to make anonymous contributions towards the cost of organizing this event. We will also be sharing the standard cost of accommodation and food for a 4-day program in a place like Panchgani as a benchmark to give people an idea for their calculations. Those who can afford either because of support from their organizations, institutions or from personal well-being are requested to make a generous offering of gift to cover the cost of this event. The surplus (if any) will be used by the group to take this work further
With warm regards,
Mohan Hiralal, Sushama Sharma, Ravi Badri and Mona Patrao
