We had earlier announced that the ‘Forest Foods Foraging’ walks at Vanvadi will be held on July 2 and 3. Please note that this will now be held only on Sunday, July 3. The pre-lunch walks, beginning at 11 AM, will be in 2 simultaneous groups, each led by Ambibai or Bua, our senior adivasi caretaker couple at Vanvadi. (Do remember to bring your umbrella/raincoat!)
A voluntary contribution of Rs 500 per adult and Rs 300 per child is requested, inclusive of lunch. (More or less are equally welcome and would help meet various expenses at Vanvadi!) While payment may be made at Vanvadi on July 3, please register by Saturday, July 2, noon, emailing the number of people coming with you, their names, and your phone number to vanutsav@gmail.com, with a copy to bharatmansata@yahoo.com. We are accepting a maximum of 30 people. (If we find more are interested, we may organize one more walk in July.)
Given below are the directions to Vanvadi in the Sahyadri foothills, about 100 km from Mumbai going towards Pune. For any further queries, please phone Vinita/Zui/Bharat at 022-23542420.

We have listed over 50 varieties of traditionally consumed uncultivated forest food plants growing at Vanvadi, that seasonally provide edible yield — leaf, fruit, flower, seed, stem, tuber/root… The peak availability is in early monsoon, ie now!
