This talk by Mansoor Khan will explore the connections between energy, economy and ecology, and the implications they hold for the human future. It is based on his book, The Third Curve – The End of Growth As We Know It, released in 2013. The book examines the stark and unbridgeable disparity between the compulsions of exponential, economic growth and the energy limits imposed on us by the laws of geology, thermodynamics and the finiteness of the Earth. The looming crises of energy depletion, climate change, food insecurity and debt can be traced to this faulty vision of perpetual economic growth.

Since the publication of the book, Mansoor has given dozens of presentations to audiences across India. Warning that growth paths that do not recognise the finiteness of natural resources and the fragility of ecosystems can only lead to collapse and chaos, he calls for a new vision of a sustainable society based on the ecological realities of earth.

We invite scientists, educationists, policy experts, researchers, journalists, activists and anyone concerned about these issues to attend the talk and take part in the panel discussions afterwards.
