Farmers, our anna daatas from all over the country are coming to Delhi, for a #KisanMuktiSansad. Organised by AIKSCC, this will be a historical moment in the struggles of our anna daatas. Two Bills will be introduced in this Parliament centred around the farmers’ two main demands – that of Freedom from Debt, and Remunerative Prices as a legal entitlement of all farmers.
Over the past one week, Delhi witnessed numerous interesting direct actions.
A Modi election video was played back at Agri Minister’s home to ask him to stop lying and to stop denying that Modi has indeed promised a :C2+50% price formula for Farmers. This was on the 13th.

On the 14th, the results of #KisanKiLoot ground level evidence-building were shared widely on social media using pictures of farmers from different states, growing different crops presenting numbers and showing how they are being systemically looted. This trended on twitter charts that day, which is unusual for farmers’ issues!

On the 15th, a group of women farmers went and questioned the CACP Chairperson on the price recommendations made by this Commission. They obviously got no satisfactory response, and came out and told the media how there is no institution in the country which is explicitly concerned about their price-related plight.

On the 16th, dummies of farmers were seen hanging from important flyovers in Delhi, to sensitise Delhi’ites to the issue of farmer suicides. 16th also saw a social media buzz with lots of celebrities joining ordinary urban citizens in saying they are #Indebted2Farmers.

On the 17th, a slide projected on India Gate reminded citizens about 3 lakh farm suicides so far and said “jo shaheed hue hai unki zara yaad karo qurbani”.

On the 18th, many farmer groups from all over the country began their long, difficult journeys to Delhi, many without confirmed tickets. IN the case of Maharashtra, a special train has been arranged bringing around 2000 farmers into Delhi.

One more interesting activity is going to play out today.
